MediaCorp and Televisi Republik Indonesia (TVRI) jointly staged the 3rd Fiesta Muzik in Singapore on 6 September 2013. Taking on a contemporary twist, this year’s Fiesta Muzik — Style ’13 (Music Fiesta — Style ’13) is a fashion, music and lifestyle extravaganza hosted by MediaCorp Suria artiste — Nurul Aini and TVRI artiste Uli Herdinansyah.

Mr Aubeck Kam, Singapore’s Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Communications and Information (MCI) and Dr Basuki Yusuf Iskandar, Indonesia’s Secretary-General of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, attended Fiesta Muzik as the Guests-of-Honour.

Fiesta Muzik is organised under the umbrella of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Cooperation in the Field of Information and Communication, which was signed between Singapore and Indonesia in 2007. The MOU seeks to promote cooperation and exchange of expertise between the two countries through co-productions between their broadcasters; collaboration in education and training; policy and technical exchanges; and an annual exchange of visits between officials.

LATEST Sand Art Film – “SINGAPORE” – An Epic Sand Animation Art Tribute by Sand Artist Lawrence

Dear friends,

After sacrificing my sleep day after day (by sleeping around 7am or 8am…), I’m very very proud to share with you my most detailed and strenuous sand animation art film to date; portraying more than 20 scenes in this very film using sand.

Since I was small all the way till today, my dearest grandma would often share with me the stories and facts of her past. Which can be funny, sad and nostalgic. To me, her precious sharings are not just like a time travelling machine that brings me back into her past; but also a glimpse of her life as a homegrown SINGAPOREAN.

Many people asked me, why a tribute to Singapore all of a sudden? Is it because of national day? – No. National day is not the only day in which I recognize myself as a Singaporean; and in this case a Singaporean artist. This sand animation art tribute to Singapore was made with this dream of being able to portray all the beautiful treasures of Singapore for the whole world to enjoy through my imagination, vision and art. This sand animation art film did not exactly portray the stories that my grandma shared with me; but instead, it portrays what it feels like to take a little moment to stop for awhile and listen to the stories of the older generation as their words trigger thoughts of nostalgia, inspiration and timeless wonders…

I sincerely hope that this sand animation art film can be something that touches your heart (be it whether you are a Singaporean or not). And most importantly, a reminder for you to open your heart and embrace the wonderful stories from the older generation. Who knows? You might just discover some real hidden treasures that could change your life forever!

Happy National Day!!! – A new sand art film is in the making now. This time, Im paying my biggest tribute to Singapore. Coming soon…

“Vincent Van Gogh” – NEW Sand Art Film by Sand Artist Lawrence!

Vincent Willem van Gogh (30 March 1853 — 29 July 1890) was a Dutch post-Impressionist painter whose work, notable for its rough beauty, emotional honesty and bold color, had a far-reaching influence on 20th-century art. After years of painful anxiety and frequent bouts of mental illness, he died aged 37 from a gunshot wound, generally accepted to be self-inflicted (although no gun was ever found). His work was then known to only a handful of people and appreciated by fewer still.

Van Gogh began to draw as a child, and he continued to draw throughout the years that led up to his decision to become an artist. He did not begin painting until his late twenties, completing many of his best-known works during the last two years of his life. In just over a decade, he produced more than 2,100 artworks, consisting of 860 oil paintings and more than 1,300 watercolors, drawings, sketches and prints. His work included self portraits, landscapes, still lifes, portraits and paintings of cypresses, wheat fields and sunflowers.

In March 1886, he moved to Paris and discovered the French Impressionists. Later, he moved to the south of France and was influenced by the strong sunlight he found there. His work grew brighter in color, and he developed the unique and highly recognizable style that became fully realized during his stay in Arles in 1888.

On 22 February 1890, Van Gogh suffered a new crisis that was “the starting point for one of the saddest episodes in a life already rife with sad events”. Vincent died in the evening, 29 hours after he apparently shot himself. Theo reported his brother’s last words as “The sadness will last forever.”

After his death, memorial exhibitions were mounted in Brussels, Paris, The Hague and Antwerp. In the early 20th century, there were retrospectives in Paris (1901 and 1905), and Amsterdam (1905), and important group exhibitions in Cologne (1912), New York (1913) and Berlin (1914). These had a noticeable impact on later generations of artists. By the mid 20th century Van Gogh was seen as one of the greatest and most recognizable painters in history. Together with those of Pablo Picasso, Van Gogh’s works are among the world’s most expensive paintings ever sold, as estimated from auctions and private sales.

New sand animation art by Singapore’s sand artist Lawrence

Avalokiteśvara (Sanskrit: अवलोकितेश्वर lit. “Lord who looks down”) is a bodhisattva who embodies the compassion of all Buddhas. Portrayed in different cultures as either male or female, Avalokiteśvara is one of the more widely revered bodhisattvas in mainstream Mahayana Buddhism, as well as unofficially in Theravada Buddhism.

The original name for this bodhisattva was Avalokitasvara. The Chinese name for Avalokiteśvara is Guānshìyīn Púsà (觀世音菩薩), which is a translation of the earlier name “Avalokitasvara Bodhisattva.” This bodhisattva is variably depicted as male or female, and may also be referred to simply as Guānyīn.

May this sand art inspire everyone in this world with loving kindness and compassion. May all sentient beings be safe, happy, and healthy.
